Energy poverty is a real problem in Africa and has the danger of impeding development in the continent. Close to 1 billion people still do not have access to clean energy in Africa. There is a strong need for quick-win options to solve the ever-increasing energy access challenge and solar has been proven to be one of the rightful paths.

In Lusaka, Zambia Vitalite Zambia Limited and the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) have entered into a financing agreement.

VITALITE, a Zambian company established in 2013, aims to make modern, renewable energy accessible and affordable to all Zambian households. In early-2016 VITALITE became the first company to offer a fully integrated pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) solar home system in Zambia.
