Our Story

VITALITE was created to increase rural electrification and combat the poverty tax affecting low-income, energy-poor households across Zambia.

Our stated mission is to make quality products and services accessible and affordable to all Zambian households. As a social enterprise, we reinvest the majority of our profits to achieve sustainability, grow our reach and ensure the fulfilment of our mission. We are proud to be the first to pioneer a fully integrated pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) service in Zambia.

We aim to become Zambia’s leading asset financing company using modern mobile technology to provide consumer-financing solutions for solar energy and other productive products and services to low-income indigent households.

VITALITE positively contributes to the development of Zambia and also includes the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All initiative and the Government of Zambia’s sustainable development policies in all its efforts.

Bold and pioneering

Success Stories!

We help people with less available cash to live the lifestyle they aspire to ie. through our PayGo service, which allows them to take possession of a product while making payments.

universal access to sustainable energy

The SDG 7 of universal access to sustainable energy shows the importance of such access in a development perspective. In addition, several of the other SDGs require similarly effective and sustainable energy provision. However, with the current pace of electrification, the access gap will remain unchanged in 2030 as electrification progress barely keeps up with population growth.

The main challenge historically has been the high costs of grid electrification, where each new connection costs several thousand dollars per household. In general terms, for each 1 dollar invested in energy generation capacity for a household, the cost of extending the grid to transport the energy costs 4 dollars or more - most of which normally has to be covered by scarce public funds.

Off-grid PV solutions can provide basic energy access at a cost 1/40 to 1/4 of the cost of gridbased electrification. However, providing sustainable energy access to households still has some significant barriers: - Affordability and access to capital: Selling Solar Home Systems to low income households requires consumer financing, allowing the households to pay down a system over time.

Whereas the state and national utilities finance the CAPEX for the grid, the private sector finances the CAPEX for SHS. Hence, access to both inventory and consumer financing is vital to a PAYGO company in order to reach most households. - Quality and sustainability: VITALITE offers only high quality products.

There are many low quality products offered at low cost to the households in markets where quality PAYGO solutions are not present. However, due to their short lifetime, cheap products normally lead to high life cycle costs for the households, electronic waste in the communities and damage the public perception of solar energy reliability and cost effectiveness. - Dispersed customers and distributed assets: Selling, maintaining and serving customers and systems across a low-density country requires an extensive, efficient and digitally operated distribution network.
